Concord Dive Center Instructors & Staff
Robert Durant
At 10 years old I experienced Diving with my uncle who was a Navy
Seal...what an experience...for years just wanted to get
certified..Finally in September of 2004, I started in RC's class, and
as soon as I put my face in the water, I was hooked. I sold my
motorcyle to buy all my gear and advanced classes, I was convinced
this was for me. Three years later, I have completed all my Instructor Certification, have been on over 125 dives,
and opened my own dive shop with my wife, who is currently getting certified.
I have the best bunch of instructors and dive cons on board, and
we are ready to show the area the best time of their lives.
Kathie Durant
As a child I was frightened to be near the water, never learning how to
swim. However that all changed in October of 05. I was convinced to
try snorkeling by Steve Grubb, one of our instructors. Not only did I
succeed in getting over the fear of sinking( the wetsuit makes you
float) I managed to learn how to snorkel. In December I went and
snorkeled with the Manatee...what an experience. Since then I have
been snorkeling in quarries, and in 65 feet of water...who would have
thought that, not me. Now I am an owner of a dive shop, following my
husband's dream. And now, as of August 5th, 2007, I am now a certified diver!
If I can do this, anyone can....Just come and try it.
Dave Farlow
David started diving in 1999 and has not stopped yet. Open Water Diver, Advanced Open
Water Diver, Master Diver, Dive Control Specialist, Century Diver, Assistant Instructor,
Equipment Technician, and Dive Con Instructor, he enjoys it all. He especially enjoys
watching others after that initial dive, after that first wall dive, and after they see
their first shark. 'It just makes all the work worthwhile" he says. "Come with me to the
Carolina Coast for some of the best wreck diving in the world. Come with me to the
sunny Bahamas for a live aboard experience. Let's go diving
Tim Rogers
Tim became certified in 2000 and found out diving was everything he thought it would be
and then some. He can remember watching Sea Hunt & Flipper and wishing he could do that.
Tim currently holds a rating of Dive Con Instructor. Tim is also a factory trained
technician for most major brands of equipment. So, when not working at Duke Power or
teaching a class, Tim spends his time in the service department. Tim's Favorite Dives:
Sea Fever, NC Wrecks, and Cooper River.
RC Coley
RC's love of reading and viewing history channel programs based on underwater
preservation and discoveries sparked a huge interest in diving. From his very
first dive, he was hooked and continues to spread that enthusiasm with anyone
who is interested. This passion has grown into a need to share and teach others
what they can experience beneath the deep blue sea. His favorite dives include
those that provide a view of what the ocean floor has captured over time such as
WWII and Civil War wrecks. Words cannot express what you feel as these visions
appear before your very eyes. RC is a Dive Con instructor, century diver, TDI
certified technical diver, and let's go get wet and have some fun diver.
Tony Cochran
Tony made his first ocean dive in the Florida Keys many years ago and knew he wanted
to do more. He researched every shop for miles around to find the best course and
personnel in the business. He is currently a Master Open Water Instructor, Century
Instructor, Dive Control Specialist Instructor and Specialty Instructor for Nitrox
and most of SSI's specialty courses. He says he teaches SCUBA because he loves seeing
student's faces when they go on SCUBA for the first time, and their smiles when he
hands them their "C" Card. He loves diving from the clear waters of Cozumel and the
Bahamas to searching for ancient artifacts in the black waters of the Cooper River.
Robin Grubb
Robin is never far from the water weather she is white water kayaking or diving. In 1998 she
started diving and advanced to instructor level. As an Advanced Open Water instructor she
prefers to wait for students that are ready to take care of others. She teaches the Stress and
Rescue classes for Concord Dive Center and ensures that you know what "STRESS" is.
Her dive locations include Thailand, Belize, Mexico, Hawaii, N.C. and FL. coast and several
different islands in the Caribbean.
With a positive attitude she keeps it fun and exciting for students to "DIVE, DIVE, DIVE"!
Steve Grubb
Steve became a certified diver in 1978 at UNC-Wilmington. He didn’t get seriously involved in
recreational diving until 1998. With Steve’s military background he is also a certified Tech.
Diver. This makes for great tips and techniques, that will help make you a more confident and safer diver.
Steve has dove in Thailand, South Korea, Cozumel, Cancun, Belize, “The Bahamas”, The Carolina and FL
Coast, and local Quarries, & Lakes. If you like to work on gear and gadgets he is your guy. Or
should we call it your toys?
Rich Bryant
Rich had dreamed of Scuba diving ever since he developed his love for photography. Years later he
finally got certified and developed his skills to be comfortable lugging around a massive underwater
camera system. Realizing how much fun it is working with new divers he received his Dive Control
Specialist certification and 5 years latter he became an Advanced Openwater Instructor. He currently
is a Dive Control Specialist Instructor and teaches numerous specialty classes. Rich has enjoyed the
underwater world from the Massachusetts coast to the island of Bonaire and many great spots in-between.
His favorite shark dives have been right here off the North Carolina coast, so lets go east and get wet.
Dan Vote
From the exotic limestone quarries of Indiana to the orange and red hues of the Red Sea diving has
always been an integral part of my life from age 12. From an early age the ocean always drew my attention.
Certified at age 12, I continued diving and eventually working in a dive shop through college. This love
of diving evolved into a career path that allowed me to work in the Caymans and Bahamas for almost 5 years.
I look forward to sharing my experiences and love for the sport to anyone interested. The thing I enjoy
the most is seeing a new diver get to experience the underwater environment for the first time.
Rob Dobie
Rob Dobie began diving many years ago. His Uncle Frank, a rescue and recovery diver was his inspiration.
His first ocean dive was at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he discovered the amazement of diving. Rob is a scuba
instructor, teaches several scuba specialties, Medic First Aid instructor and a Diver’s Alert Instructor.
Rob and his wife’s favorite places to dive include Grand Cayman and Curacao. He loves to hear the excitement from
others as they talk about great dive adventures, so when you see him tell him yours.
